Okay, I made it! 28 floors, in 23 minutes and 49 seconds. Not a record breaker by any means but I didn’t die and I actually consider that a personal accomplishment!
The winners (but really weren’t we all winners?) had times of *ahem* 3 minutes and such like that. Whatever. What kind of overachiever can do 28 floors in three minutes? I wish I could say I think he cheated and took the elevator but he probably didn’t. UGH.
So I should probably come clean with the whole truth, before it’s made public.
In darts, when you play on a team, you play for a whole season and at the end of these weekly competitions with some of the best dart throwers in the county, you get rankings that come with cash prizes and a trophy. If you come in last place, you’re given a key-chain with a donkey on it. It’s known as The Jackass Award. Despite coming in second place the first year I played, and pocketing around $300 between me and my ex-GF, the next year I won the Jackass Award and still have my coveted key-chain.
I waited around today after the climb, for my Jackass Award, but apparently on a CF stair climb, you don’t get such a distinguished trophy – only a bottle of cool water, an icy washcloth, and my name as distinctly last on the posted times of everyone who participated.
I guess the grand prize today for me was – I’m alive! I’m alive! I’mmmmmmm alive!
TWO MORE DAYS! And I will be a-huffing and a-puffing up 28 floors of stairs, in the name of Cystic Fibrosis and for my grandson!
Breathe for a moment JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN!
Think about what it means to the thousands upon thousands of people who cannot breathe without struggling, who do not have the lung capacity to take in those big deep breaths you enjoy every day and take for granted, myself included.
PLEASE PASS MY LINK ALONG – SHARE IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS, ASK THEM TO DONATE TO THIS WORTHWHILE CAUSE JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN BREATHE FREELY. Even a dollar would mean so much in the long run.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT OF THIS STAIR CLIMB and of me, your friend, your family, your favorite clown, your confidant, your whoever I am to you. For those of you who have shared, who have shown your support and your friendship, I genuinely thank you, I appreciate you and trust me I will never forget you.
Okay, I just did 3075 steps! A full half hour without stopping, and although I’m sweating, I could probably go further! I just need a momentary break. Feeling great! Can’t wait to get my stair-climb on!
And, thanks to good friends, I’ve met my $300 goal!
I added more strengthening exercises today…specifically the Rowing Squat. Who, I want to know, who squats while they row? Anyone? NO! No one does that. No one should have to do that! There’s seats in boats, I’ve seen them! But I did 45 of them before my body said, “Stop, stop, stoppppittt, just stop”. And that’s added to 1066 steps, oh yeah, and some segway (which should be called Lean-Over-Until-You-Think-You’ll-Fall-Way, and some tilt table and of course just for fun, Advanced Snowball Fighting. I’m telling you, that one is just too much fun. Those rowing squats said it would tone up my thighs and something else. Well, it better. Snowball fighting is my reward for the rowing squats. 😛
$15, you guys! C’mon, take up a collection, for Pete’s sake. A dollar from 15 people. You’d loan me a dollar, wouldn’t you? Well, loan me a dollar and I’ll just avoid you for a while. Totally worth your dollar!
Anybody, somebody? At least spread the word for me, guys! It’s for a good cause! And I am working my butt off.
(DISCLAIMER: The CF website says there are two categories, Timed and Non-Timed…please do not be mislead. I will NOT be participating in the Timed event. It’s just not happening. In fact, I might take the Jack-Ass award for dead last but I WILL FINISH.)
I have decided if I reach $300, I am going to carve my grandson’s name (in a reverse shave) on one side of my head, and CF (for Cystic Fibrosis) on the other side! Oh yeah! My plan is to do it the day before the climb so it’s really prominent. 😀
So if you want to see photos, here’s your chance to donate!
Share my page, share my link, share my story!
I am working out for two hours every day now, trying to make myself stronger! I even added two 5-pound weights to my bathroom, so I can lift weights while I potty. (Is that weird?) Anyway, keep me in mind on September 27th and send me positive vibes, if nothing else!

Okay, this morning, 862 steps! It isn’t 1019, which is 28 floors, but since it’s my first day of counting, I thought I did rather good! Plus I reached the goal that the CF Foundation set for me in ONE DAY!
I am ready, let’s do this!
