Just For Today….

(I reposted this from someone else, who reposted it from someone else who reposted it …. and well, you get the picture)

Just for today I will be happy. This assumes that what Abraham Lincoln said is true, that “most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Happiness is from within; it is not a matter of externals.

Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my family, my business, and my luck as they come and fit myself to them.

Just for today I will take care of my body. I will exercise it, care for it, nourish it, not abuse it nor neglect it, so that it will be a perfect machine for my bidding.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. I will do at least two things I don’t want to do, as William James suggests, just for exercise.

Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress as becomingly as possible, talk low, act courteously, be liberal with praise, criticize not at all, nor find fault with anything and not try to regulate nor improve anyone.

Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not to tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do things for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep them up for a lifetime.

Just for today I will have a program. I will write down what I expect to do every hour. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. It will eliminate two pests, hurry and indecision.

Just for today I will have a quiet half-hour all by myself and relax. In this half-hour sometimes I will think of God, so as to get a little more perspective into my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid, especially I will not be afraid to be happy, to enjoy what is beautiful, to love, and to believe that those I love, love me.

Happy Late New Years!

I hope all is well with all of you, and I definitely hope your year has started out positive.

I’ll be moving in the new two to three weeks, my 6-year-old grandson has surgery tomorrow and I am home from my two-week holiday vacation in Florida.  Life is good.  Life is good.  It could be better as it could be warmer than 23 but I’ll take it and wish for warmer temperatures next week.

Hellos to you all and I will write more when I’m settled if not before.  Cross your fingers for my little grandson and send out those positive vibes.  I’ll take all I can get.

I am grateful for life, for my family, for my health and for a new start to a new year.

Day 38 of my gratitudes:

Day 38 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for ham – bacon’s rico-suave cousin.
I am grateful for bicycles.  Requires no gas yet able to move you across town quicker than your feet would.  No, I don’t ride.  I’m thankful other people do though.  What?  My neighbor got a bicycle and no longer sits on the porch, catcalling to me and Lori.  Two years and he still has no clue we’re not going to sleep with him.  Thank God he got a bicycle.
I am grateful for telephone poles.  There’s a good invention, right?  Fun for woodpeckers and good for telephone lines.  You gotta love that.

Peck, peck, peck – have a nice day and don’t forget to be grateful!

Day 37 of my gratitudes:

Day 37 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for the animals in our lives – the dogs who welcome our friendship, the cats who ignore us, the fish we eat…wait. Hmmm. Fish, yum.
I am grateful for cornmeal, that goes on catfish and makes yummy hush puppies to go with catfish. Yum.
I am grateful for the telephone, because I get to hear my sweet grandson’s voice tell me he loves me and that is the best sound in the world to a grandmother’s ears.

“Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.”
~Mark Twain~

Day 36 of my gratitudes:

Day 36 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for Tom Hanks; in case pirates attack, he’s got the answers.
I am grateful for wheelbarrows. Helping haul manure and dead bodies for centuries. Thank you, ancient Greeks.
I am grateful for the mostly bullshit laws that govern us; otherwise, my friends Jen and Tina wouldn’t have gotten the chance to elope and get married in this great country where they pay taxes to our government but aren’t recognized as partners for the last oh so many years. Congratulations, guys! Foiled again, Government.
Government 0
Jen and Tina 1.

Have a nice day out there, people, and don’t forget to be grateful for it.

Day 35 of my gratitudes:

Day 35 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for my feet; they don’t know it yet, but they’re taking me to boxing tonight and they’re gonna stay until I’m finished, one way or the other.  😀
I am grateful for creamer.  This coffee is so smooth this morning and creamer is like the icing on the proverbial cake.
I am grateful for lemons.  They wake your mouth up, leave your sink smelling good and soothe a cough when mixed with honey.  What a versatile fruit.

Don’t forget to be grateful and have a nice day!

Day 34 of my gratitudes:

Day 34 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for life.  Every single day is an adventure of some sort, even if the adventures are small ones.
I am grateful for cranberry juice.  That stuff is just good.
I am grateful for crayons.  Who wouldn’t be?  *colors all over WordPress, filling in the boxes with lots of different colors and draws a mustache on all the lesbian photos and bunny ears on all the men – leaves all the straight women alone, for once*

Don’t forget to be grateful and have a nice day!

Day 33 of my gratitudes:

Day 33 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for the ocean – and its tides, its creatures, its ability to make a person feel so insignificant – always a humbling experience and yet one I miss all the time.
I am grateful for otters.  They eat sea urchins, which can demolish sea kelp beds which give homes to thousands of other creatures.  Go, otters, protecting the sea life communities, you goofy lugs you.
I am grateful for grapes – as raisins, as grapes, as wine…need I say more?

Have a great Sunday and be grateful for all you have!

Day 32 of my gratitudes:

Day 32 of my gratitudes:
I am grateful for chairs.  Oh yeah.  *wiggles butt in chair*
I am grateful for the Farmer’s Market, selling un-fooled around with food.
I am grateful for my imagination.  I’m often unsure if I’ve seen a movie because when I read a book, I am there, front row to whatever it is, and I love it.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget to be grateful.
